In Memory: Phyllis Lister Brown

The Dallas County Democratic Party expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Judge Phyllis Lister Brown, who passed away this morning, May 25, following an illness. She was Judge of the 162nd Civil District Court. Brown was a tremendous jurist and a leader in the community for many years. She touched many lives in a positive way. She will be missed, and we have her example to follow.

2016 State Democratic Convention

The Texas Democratic Party has released a tentative schedule of events for the 2016 State Democratic Convention. To become a national delegate, read these instructions for filing statement of candidacy.

THURSDAY, JUNE 16

6PM: Kickoff Reception at La Villita Assembly Hall, San Antonio. (Click here to get your tickets.)

FRIDAY, JUNE 17

9AM: Delegate credentials distribution begins.

9AM – 3PM: Various interest caucuses.

3 – 5PM: Senate District Caucuses where voting for Delegates, Committees, Electors and SDEC.

6PM: Evening General Session and Keynote speeches.

SATURDAY, JUNE 18

8AM: Resolutions Committee, Rules Committee, Platform Committee, Nominations for National Delegates, Nominations for SDEC, DNC, and Electors.

8:30AM: Lady Bird Breakfast at Grand Hyatt Hotel Ballroom, San Antonio. (Click here to get your tickets.)

9AM – 12PM: Training sessions.

12PM: Second General Session.

Adjournment typically occurs in the late afternoon.


Runoffs and Election Results

On Tuesday, May 24, we will have a statewide Democratic Primary Runoff in Texas for Railroad Commissioner, between Grady Yarbrough (39%) and Cody Garrett (35%). Here in Dallas County we will have an additional three runoffs. Two are county-wide, for Criminal District Judge, Court No. 2, between Nancy Kennedy (46%) and Chika Anyiam (32%), and for County Tax Assessor-Collector between John R. Ames (42%) and Bennie Elenora Brown (25%). There will also be a runoff for Constable, Precinct No. 1, between Tracey Gulley (44%) and Mae Jackson (34%).

The Runoff Ballot Drawing was held March 10 at the DCDP office. Results for local races:
